Despite specialising in river cruises throughout Europe and Asia, the Emerald Waterways team are proud of our heritage in North West England. Based in Manchester’s city centre, we like to get involved with the local community and help out wherever we can. Here we are having a look at one of our community ventures - sponsoring a local youth football team.

Great Moor County Junior Football Club

At Emerald Waterways, we are the proud sponsor of Great Moor County Junior Football Club under 10 Panthers. Plying their trade in the Stockport Metro Junior Football League, the volunteer-run team is aimed at boys and girls in the Stockport, Cheshire & Bramhall areas.

Resplendent in their famous black and white stripes, complete with the Emerald Waterways logo; the Panthers are currently sitting pretty in the A league, having not lost a game all season. The team will be hoping to continue this good form as the season enters the business end.

Although tables are not published for this age group, they are unofficially top of the league – routinely receiving praise from opposition managers for their ability, teamwork and attitude. They are also excelling in the champions cup, where they have won all of their games so far, and hope to progress to the final.

The boys and girls ply their trade all around north Cheshire and south Manchester, playing against teams from Macclesfield and Hazel Grove to Droylseden and Withington. In July, the team will be entered into the Champions of Champions trophy, where they will compete against the very best teams in the region.

The sponsorship money allows the club to invest in high quality training facilities – improving the skills of all the players on a weekly basis. And they’ve even been able to treat the lads, as team manager ‘Craig Pritchard’ enthuses:

“Recently we took the boys to Saint George’s Park which is the home of the England Team and the English FA'S main base. Where they and the parents were given a guided tour of the tremendous facilities where all their heroes who play for England train before England matches. They were then given a two hour training session by England's coaches at the amazing full size indoor astro-turf pitch, this was a day for the boys and the parents to remember.”

Since being founded in 1999, the Great Moor junior teams have been an integral part of the local community. Based out of Norwood Park, Great Moor, the team has been helping improve fitness and teamwork in local youths for close to two decades.

As an FA Charter Standard Development Club and one of the junior football clubs in the North West, the teams are dedicated to developing great talent, and nurturing teamwork and cooperation within all players in age groups.

If you are interested in going to support the kids, or if a member of your family is interested in joining the ranks; visit the How To Find Us page for directions and contact details.
