Cruises are the new solo travel trend
Cruising is on the up with solo travellers: that’s the message coming from a number of experts in the cruise industry.
A recent study by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has shown that the number of solo travellers opting for a cruise holiday is on the up.
According to Andy Harmer, the director of CLIA UK and Ireland, cruise companies are offering more for the solo traveller, adding in a Telegraph article that “a number of companies [are] waiving single supplements and others increasing the number of cabins available for those travelling on their own."
On top of this, a recent poll by Cruise Critic’s UK edition found that 5 per cent of the participants would consider going solo on a cruise. Although this is not a large proportion of people in comparison to those who travel as a couple or in groups, this number is on the rise as more people choose to try cruising, whether an ocean cruise or a more intimate river cruise holiday.
Solo cruises with Emerald Waterways
Emerald Waterways is one of the river cruise lines welcoming solo travellers. On all our custom-built ships there are two cabins designed especially for single travellers, and we charge a fair price for these.
Our solo cabins are the perfect size for one, with 117ft² offering a spacious feel. They also have the same standard of finish and amenities as our other staterooms, including a picture window, bathroom with toiletries, complimentary bottled water restocked daily, complimentary WiFi and individual climate control.
As for the experience outside of our staterooms, our Welcome Dinner and Farewell Dinner are great opportunities to meet fellow cruisers and share stories of how you’ve spent your day. We include guided excursions at each of our destinations, with some special activities too where you can meet local families, so there is always something interesting to do.
