Emerald Waterways are delighted to announce our support of Reuben's Retreat, a local charity dedicated to supporting children and families living with life-limiting or life-threatening illness.

Following the tragic loss of their youngest son, Reuben, to a rare and aggressive brain tumour, Mike and Nicola Graham were determined to keep his memory alive, through providing a sanctuary in his name. A place to ‘relax, recharge, remember and rebuild’, where families facing uncertain futures could spend quality time together in an environment designed specifically for their child’s individual needs. Not only does the retreat offer effective therapy to the child, it gives parents the respite they need and the chance to meet other families in similar positions.

Nicola explains: “To families out there, Reuben’s Retreat will be so valuable, we’re going to help so many people.”

From humble beginnings, April 2017 saw the charity celebrate their fifth anniversary as they continue to progress with their plans. Thanks to generous donations, their 10-phase renovation work is well under way, and their next fundraiser is for a hydrotherapy pool and changing suite to introduce a physical therapy resource for children with complex requirements.

Every passing phase brings with it an extra need for volunteers, and Emerald Waterways are proud to be joining Reuben’s Retreat on the Salford 10k in September, as well as 2018’s Manchester 10K in May. If you’d like to join us in supporting such a wonderful venture, fundraising challenges are welcomed, and you’ll find a fantastic list of ideas on the website to get you started.

If you’d like to start fundraising or to make a donation, you can do so via their Virgin Money Giving page, a quick and easy way for your friends, families and supporters to donate in just a few clicks.
