43rd International Film Festival is underway in Belgrade
More than 124 works of cinematic art will be shown during the festival, which will include approximately 90 premiers, with a total of 242 screenings throughout the week. The festival will continue until Sunday 8th March, which those in Belgrade on river cruises in Europe can get involved with by viewing one from the large variety of films.
Belgrade is extremely proud of its contribution to the world of film art and has previously hosted numerous famous and iconic film figures such as directors, actors, and scriptwriters during the previous 42 years of the festival. To date, FEST has attracted more than four million visitors and has screened close to 4,000 international films during its 40 years of existence.
An exciting new element for the 43rd International Film Festival FEST
The opening event included a performance from the Viva Vox choir, alongside a collection of videos that showcased the festival’s expansive history. Serbian actress, Milena Dravic and Russian director, Aleksandr Sokurov were also given awards at the event for their exceptional contributions to film over the years.
This year’s International Film Festival FEST is particularly significant as it will be the first time that the event is competitive, with a slogan that reads ‘Here we are – in the constellation of winners’ and an international jury making decisions on three competition programs.
French film director, Bertrand Bonello’s Saint Laurent was the first film to be screened, not counting those nominated for the competition. The rest of the extensive program includes films that have already won Academy Awards and prizes at various other festivals, alongside titles from around the world, and Serbia in particular.
