This news comes from the 2013 instalment of the Google Zeitgeist List, which is drawn up by analysing the behaviours of internet users and tracking the most popular search subjects of the year. The Dutch capital was celebrated in the poll for the most trending travel terms, taking the bronze medal behind Rome and New York, which finished in first and second place respectively. Finishing ahead of the Australian cities of Sydney, Bangkok in Thailand and Venice in Italy, this represents the overwhelming popularity which Amsterdam holds with people from all over the world.
For something to be trending on Google, there has to be a high volume of search queries over a sustained period in one year. With this in mind, it’s clear that Amsterdam proves to be a popular destination throughout all four seasons.
Famed for its vast network of canals, Amsterdam has long been a favoured destination for European river cruises. There is also the beautiful architecture to explore, with the Dam Square, Haarlemmerstraat and Leiden Square just some of the age-old landmarks which attract so many visitors. Whether you want to spend the day sightseeing, enjoy a pleasurable cycle on the narrow city streets, or perhaps enjoy some fantastic food, Amsterdam has something to offer everyone.
If you are looking to book a memorable river cruise holiday in Europe soon, be sure to visit Amsterdam along the way and discover why it is held in such high regard.
