Eurovision is a hit in Amsterdam

The 5th April saw Eurovision contestants from around the world gather for the sixth annual Eurovision in Concert at the Melkweg venue in the city centre.

The area, which is always popular with guests of scenic river cruise holidays that pass through the Dutch capital, was alive with music on Saturday evening as singers and performers from all over the world gathered for the biggest Eurovision Promo Event of the year.

The Performances

The concert was hosted by Cornald Maas and Sandra Reemer, who achieved fourth place in the contest back in 1972 with Als Het Om De Liefde Gaat, and was felt to be a huge success yet again with all who attended and watched on TV.

25 acts in total performed at the concert ahead of the contest itself, including Dutch entry The Common Linnets and the United Kingdom’s Molly, who performed to an audience of around 1,500. After the concert the fun wasn’t quite over as Amsterdam hosted the Official Eurovision in Concert After-party at Odeon, Amsterdam’s popular party venue on the canal belt.

The Common Linnets, the Dutch entry for the contest, are a band formed for a one-time concert at the De Grolsch Veste Stadium in addition to the Eurovision Song Contest. Their performance of their Eurovision entry ‘Calm After the Storm’ can be seen here and offers a great example of Dutch culture for those embarking on a trip to Amsterdam.

While you might have missed the Eurovision in Concert event this year, there is still chance to catch the 2015 edition in Amsterdam through booking a spring European river cruise 2015 with Emerald Waterways.
