Prague one of the most visited cities

With the popularity of couple’s river cruise holidays continuing to surge, it is little wonder that Prague is becoming more and more popular as a city to visit. With Amsterdam and Vienna just above the Czech capital in the rankings, European river cruise guests really do get to enjoy the best visited places in the world.

“Important centres of business, culture and economy”

Prague has jumped up in its visitor numbers of late, overtaking that of Berlin, Warsaw and Madrid, as well as a number of other well-visited cities, suggesting that visitor spend will be invested back into the trade to produce an even better visitor experience for 2015 European river cruise guests touring the area.

The Global Destination Cities Index for 2014 survey, undertaken by the MasterCard association, takes into account tourism figures from across the world in terms of individual cities and foreign visitor spending. It predicts that Prague is set to be visited by a grand total of 4.9 million tourists this year alone, which stands as an increase of 1.1 million on last year’s figures.

MasterCard CEO for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Miroslav Lukeš, said of the findings in this article, “This year's ranking confirms that world cities remain important centers of business, culture and economy.” With Amsterdam and Vienna just ahead of Prague in the rankings, at 7.2m and 6.1m respectively, it stands to reason that European river cruises have exceeded in popularity this year, contributing to such impressive numbers.
