Budapest is already a hugely popular destination for summer river cruise holidays but with the announcement of the Hungarian capital’s hosting of the race in early July it is expected that many more travellers will be booking trips to Budapest in 2015.
Split across the Danube
As an iconic feature of escorted Danube river cruises the River Danube is one of the key aspects of the city’s hosting, making for a spectacular backdrop for the race. In Red Bull’s introduction to the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in Budapest it described Budapest as ‘a city of two halves’ where ‘the iconic backdrop of the neo-gothic Parliament building on the Pest side of the river will once again give fans a stunning panoramic view of the action.’
As a part of red Bull’s reason for choosing Budapest among the eight cities hosting the championships was the fact that the city ‘attracts over 20 million visitors a year, making it one of the top destinations in Europe and is regularly featured in the Top 10 list of World's Best Cities.’ Something river cruise guests know only too well having seen it for themselves first hand.
Budapest last hosted the event in 2009 where it attracted some 650,000 spectators who lined the World Heritage Site of the banks of the Danube to catch the spectacular aerial action. As Budapest is ‘widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the world’ and being ‘considered an important central European hub for business, culture and tourism’ the event, taking place on the 4th and 5th July 2015 is expected to attract even more visitors to this impressive city.
