As you may or may not know, we have been searching for a godmother for our newest Star-Ship, the Emerald Sun.
Following a competition, which asked leading travel agency partners to post their reasons for wanting to become godmother on social media, a clear winner was chosen by our brand manager David Winterton. Entrants were encouraged to use the hashtag #makemegodmother, with ten runners-up also chosen to win a Marriott Hotel pamper day for two worth £120.
Julie Kendrick, head of commercial and marketing at Midcounties Co-Operative Travel, is to follow in the footsteps of sixties icon Twiggy when she launches the Emerald Sun in August. Beating off competition from more than 50 other agents to land the role, Winterton was particularly impressed by Kendrick’s entry, which he described as ‘fantastic’ as it addressed all of Emerald’s core values.
The ultimate Emerald Waterways travel agent is to be crowned godmother
The Emerald Sun will be launched alongside its sister vessel, the Emerald Dawn, on August 21st when it takes its first journey from Budapest in Hungary. Kendrick will be given the honour of smashing a bottle of champagne against the ship as part of the traditional ceremony. The Star-Ship will be another sleek and stylish addition to our fleet that cruises through Europe, which is sure to be a huge success with the help of Kendrick.
Kendrick told TTG Digital: “I’m extremely excited. To actually not just be part of the naming, but to be godmother - it means I’ll become an ambassador for the ship as well as the brand. It’s just a real privilege.”
The competition was organised in order to thank the trade for all the tremendous support given to Emerald Waterways since our beginnings two years ago, which has been demonstrated even further by the superb responses from all entrants.
