An improved Apple Maps update will let users take in amazing aerial views of some of Europe’s cities.
Apple announced on 11 August that 20 new Flyover locations had been added to Apple Maps, which is available on Mac and iOS. The Flyover feature lets users view realistic 3D videos of the cities from above, as though they were flying over the city. This is done by combining 3D digital modelling with high-resolution aerial imagery.
Users can zoom in to get a close look at landmarks and attractions, and some of these landmarks are updated in real-time for an even more immersive experience. For instance, when looking at London, the time on Big Ben is updated to reflect the actual time.
The new locations that have been added are all over the world, but some of the great European additions are the same that you can discover in person on a river cruise holiday with us.
Here are the Flyover destinations that can also be seen on a river cruise with Emerald Waterways:
- Avignon, France
- Budapest, Hungary
- Cologne, Germany
- Linz, Austria
- Lyon, France
- Munich, Germany
- Nice, France
- Rotterdam, Netherlands
There are now over 150 locations worldwide that are in the Flyover list, with the full list available here. Some of the new destinations are Budapest and Rotterdam.
The Flyover feature itself was first introduced in 2012 and has gradually been updated with new locations and features, such as the real-time experience and City Tours, which gives users an aerial tour of the city. This City Tour feature is available when looking at Lyon and Cologne.
If you don’t have an Apple product, you can still check out this cool feature in the video below, featuring a Flyover of Budapest.
