Discover Emerald Waterways: A Q&A with Victoria Wallman

In the four years Emerald Waterways have operated river cruises on the beautiful waterways of the world, we have built up a highly-skilled team of passionate and creative professionals. Helping ensure every single itinerary and voyage provides exceptional experiences for every one of our guests.

It is thanks to the hard work of these individuals that we’re able to put together unique and extraordinary river cruises – so we think they deserve a little share of the spotlight. So, we’re chatting to various members of the team, and discovering what makes them tick, why they enjoy working for Emerald Waterways, and their favourite holiday experiences.

In this instalment, we’re chatting to Product & Content Co-Ordinator, Victoria Wallman, about life at Emerald Waterways HQ.

Hi Victoria, thank you for taking time to discuss life at Emerald Waterways with us. Firstly, would you be able to give us a little background about your career, and how you came to be Product & Content Co-Ordinator at Emerald Waterways?

I have been working in travel since I left college and have always worked in the sales or reservations department for travel agents. I joined Emerald waterways in August 2014, as a Reservations Consultant. I did this for two and a half years before joining the Product & Content team in December 2016.

What is your proudest moment working for Emerald Waterways, so far?

Every time I step on-board one of our Star-Ships, I feel proud. I have been here from the beginning and have watched us grow at a pace no one expected.

Of all the Emerald Waterways itineraries, which is your personal favourite? And Why?

I think Secrets of the Douro is one of my favourites. Sailing through the Douro Valley with vineyards lining the river banks. Porto’s beautiful architecture and colourful buildings have so much to offer. With lots of included excursions and wine tasting, you really get a feel for Portuguese life. And not forgetting a day trip to Salamanca in Spain – traditional tapas restaurants and Spanish music playing through the streets makes for an unforgettable day.

The EmeraldPLUS excursions and EmeraldACTIVE activities provide a broad range of incredible experiences, but which would you say is your favourite?

One of my favourite EmeraldACTIVE excursions is the bike ride from Melk to Dürnstein. About 30 of us rode off with three tour guides on what would be about a 2.5-hour bike ride. The scenery along the way was absolutely stunning as we stopped to catch our breath, take some photographs and get a drink. One of the highlights was at our final stop, where we were sat on the balcony having a drink as Emerald Sky sailed by with everyone on the Sun Deck cheering and waving at us.

How do you see Emerald Waterways, as a brand, and the river cruise industry, as a whole, developing in the coming years?

Emerald Waterways is going from strength to strength. We started in 2014 with four ships, and three years on we now have a fleet of seven. We are a strong contender in the river cruise market, winning many awards voted by our guests and travel agents. As river cruising continues to increase in popularity, I see ourselves with many more ships and some amazing new itineraries… so watch this space!

If you could travel to one dream location, where would it be?

Australia! I can’t wait to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef and drive the Great Ocean Road.

We’d like to thank Victoria for taking part in this Q&A, and hope you’ve enjoyed this insight into her role, and life at Emerald Waterways.
