The renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has been acknowledged for its many decades of outstanding work as a classical music ensemble with the awarding of the 2014 Herbert von Karajan Music Prize. The award, which was created to honour the legendary Berlin Philharmonic conductor who gave it its name, also came with Û50,000 prize money.

As Budapest gears up for its largest festival to celebrate the city's culture and musical talent, officials have announced that the event is soon to get even bigger. Already the largest cultural event in Hungary's calendar, the 2014 Budapest Spring Festival is due to play host to double the amount of acts at double the number of venues, according to the government's Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog.

The 11th Prague State Opera Ball has been hailed as a success, having raised a record 745,000 crowns for charity. The annual ball hosts a charity auction in which guests can bid on exclusive valuable items, with the money raised from the bid going to good causes. This year saw the ball raise money for the foundation established by top Czech model Tereza Maxova and the Srdcervaci project.
