The Vienna Tourist Board has found a huge increase of 5.8 per cent in the number of visitors coming to the city in the first half of 2014, resulting in some six million visitor overnight stays. This also saw 81 per cent of Vienna bednights coming from international visitors, suggesting that the international appeal of Vienna is as strong as ever, with escorted river cruises bringing in further visitor numbers.
An all-time high
These figures have resulted in an all-time high for the Austrian capital, with more bednights seen than ever before in the first half of 2014. This has also resulted in a larger visitor spend in the city, suggesting that the city’s tourism sector is doing increasingly well and the future of their tourism offering is looking positive for future visitors.
The Tourist Board is looking to use this increased visitor spend to encourage international visitors to come to the city, with the Vienna Tourist Board Director Norbert Kettner saying at a press conference earlier this week that over $11 million will be spent on initiatives to further expand the tourist market by the end of this year. This will keep Vienna appearing as an attractive destination to international visitors.
Kettner went on to say, as documented in this article, “Vienna has once again convincingly demonstrated its tourist attraction in the first half of 2014,” illustrating the positive effect these latest figures have had on the nature of the market.
While most of these figures come from overnights in Viennese hotels, with occupancy rising in the capital, there will be plenty of space aboard a 2015 European river cruise with Emerald Waterways. Book now to enjoy the flourishing Viennese tourism market in the comfort of our all-new Star Ships.
