Bratislava is the 'forgotten pearl in the heart of Europe'

Travel writer Selma Roth writing for Saudi Gazette, told her readers of the English daily newspaper in Saudi Arabia that Bratislava ‘combines a charming and mostly pedestrian old town with a meandering Danube river and the Small Carpathians as the perfect backdrop’ as she describes the many reasons that make this a beautiful city to visit on all-inclusive river cruise holidays.

Castles, museums and cafes

Bratislava’s many sites of cultural and visual interest are what continue to attract many visitors to Slovakia. With its long and interesting history of the World Wars and the numerous civilisations that influenced the making of this city and, indeed, the country, the museums and historical buildings of Bratislava are among the highlights of a trip to the city.

Roth described the Old Town as the most interesting part of the city and with its cobbled streets and 18th century builds, it is easy to see why. Bratislava’s architecture is among the most beautiful in Europe and the Bratislava Castle offers incredible views of all of it.

Roth also encourages visitors, in her article, to see the Municipal Museum and the National Museum in the Old Town to gain a true image of the city’s colourful past. For those looking for something a bit different she also notes the bizarre Pharmacy Museum and the Museum of Clocks for those looking for a unique cultural experience during their time in the capital.

There are still some remaining places on our 2014 and 2015 Danube river cruises which take guests on an interesting tour of Bratislava’s Old Town as well as showing them the landmarks of the magnificent Mirbach Palace and the Gothic cathedral of St Martin, to name just a few.
