All change for Budapest's cultural heritage

Alongside the completion of the Vigadó Concert Hall’s restoration, Budapest has also recently invested in the reconstruction of the Liszt Academy of Music last year, the restoration of the Mathias Church in the Buda Castle District and the beginning of the Museum Quarter project. Construction on the Erno Rubik museum is also about to begin to round up a series of investments being made in the capital for the benefit of visitors and those coming to the city on summer Danube river cruises.

Vigadó Concert Hall

As the second largest concert hall in the city, the Vigadó has a long-established history and has been the host of many landmark performances in Budapest. The Budai Vigadó is the home stage of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and has seen performances from such prominent musicians as Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms, Camille Saint-Saëns, Claude Debussy, Bruno Walter, Herbert von Karajan, Vladimir Horowitz and Arthur Rubinstein.

Initially designed by Hungarian architect Frigyes Feszl in 1859, the building has long been a staggering feature on the banks of the Danube for guests of deluxe river cruise holidays to marvel at as they glide past. This new renovation should see the hall restored to its former beauty and play host to many performers and guests in the future with the Mayor of Budapest, István Tarlós, stating that he believes the city is a key destination for international cultural tourism and that the Vigadó can serve as the base for a number of the best performances the city has to offer its guests.
