The festival is put together by renowned chef Károly Gerendai, owner of the only Michelin star restaurant in Budapest, Onyx Restaurant. With both street food and fine cuisine on offer, as well as plenty of workshops and stands to explore, there is set to truly be something for every taste.
With over 100 exhibitors at last year’s festival the event saw a turnout of over 12,000 visitors, attracting those on summer river cruise holidays and city breaks, as well as local residents. The event is great for visitors to Budapest, offering the chance to sample some of the best of local cuisine including such names as Zangio who will have a stand of some of the best Hungarian chocolate.
Something for everyone
Gourmet Festival, taking place over the 30th, 31st May and the 1st June, is set to include exhibitors covering all areas of cuisine, including restaurants, wines, beers and spirits, sweets and much more. There will be cooking shows to watch as well as many other workshops and visual entertainment including, of course, some very dishy food tastings.
Friday in particular will be of interest to those visiting the capital on 2014 river cruises in Europe as there will be a presentation from three top Hungarian chefs on local cuisine and ingredients.
Celebrating true Hungarian gastronomy, this event will entertain and inspire both foodies and those just visiting the Hungarian capital wishing to gain a flavour for the local culture. The great event makes it possible for both visitors and locals to sample some of the best food from the country’s most established restaurants all in one location, making it one not to miss.
Tickets cost HUF 6,500 or HUF 3,300 for day tickets and can be purchased from the Gourmet Festival website along with further details on exhibitors and how to get to the event.
