Museum Judenplatz opens Amy Winehouse exhibit

The Judenplatz Museum also known as the Jewish Museum Vienna, Museum Judenplatz is one of the Austrian capital’s most thought-provoking attractions to visit during deluxe river cruises in Europe. Whilst their permanent exhibitions make the museum an essential visit in any case, the ‘Amy Winehouse: A family portrait’ exhibit is sure to draw in huge numbers of visitors this summer.

Amy’s tragic life

Whilst being a fantastic singer known for such hits as ‘Back to Black’, ‘Rehab’ and ‘Love is a Losing Game’, Amy’s involvement with drugs and alcohol tainted her later life and career as a serious musician, right up until her tragic death from alcohol poisoning in July 2011.

The exhibition at Museum Judenplatz reveals a different and refreshing side to the singer, focusing instead on the history of her Jewish roots and displaying the items that were important to her life. Some of the items on display include some of her favourite clothing, her guitar, Amy’s personal record collection and family photos.

The collection was created by her brother Alex, who wrote all of the captions for the items and first opened it to the public in London in 2013. He describes the exhibit as “a snapshot of a girl who was, to her deepest core, simply a little Jewish kid from North London with a big talent”.

The exhibit is open until 20th August, which is perfect timing for all those who have booked a 2014 Danube river cruise with Emerald Waterways this summer. With almost all dates before 20th August sold out on the 8-day Danube Delights cruise, there is little time left to book a cruise for 2014 that visits the likes of Vienna, Budapest, Nuremberg and more.
