Eurostar reveals new 200mph trains

The announcement, which comes twenty years since the opening of the Eurostar services, was revealed at St Pancras Station in London and also confirmed that seven more trains would be ordered than first planned. The original deal cost £550 million and comprised of an order of 10 trains, which are known as the e320 model.

Reaching speeds of up to 200mph, the German trains built by Siemens will also be capable of carrying up to 900 passengers. The 306-mile trip from London to Paris will now take just two hours, fifty minutes less than the journey time of the service when it first started, and those travelling to the city for luxury European cruises will be able to reap the benefits.

Providing a more comfortable service

Customers using the Eurostar will be able to use free WiFi throughout the journey and take advantage of power points and USB sockets, and those travelling in business class will be able to enjoy a menu created by famous chef Raymond Blanc OBE. The interiors of the train have been created by Italian designers Pininfarina, and those travelling will also be given more space per seat for a more comfortable journey.

Nicolas Petrovic, Eurostar chief executive, said that “bold design, chic interiors and WiFi connectivity” will provide an excellent standard of comfort and style, while also stating that the new trains were key to Eurostar’s development ambitions, which follow ten years of consecutive growth.

When the service first started, there were just two trains a day, but now there can be between 15-17 daily trains to Paris. We also recently reported that Eurostar is introducing a new direct route to Amsterdam that will stop at Antwerp, Rotterdam and Schipol airport, which could also benefit those on river cruises with Emerald Waterways.
