Eurostar to extend to Amsterdam

Further to the addition of new French destinations due to start in May of next year, the high-speed train network is due to expand to Amsterdam, opening as soon as the end of 2016. The news will look to improve travel links between the two countries where it is likely to impact on popular river cruise holidays that tour Europe as it will offer further no-fly options for river cruise travellers.

Go direct

The new direct service between London and Amsterdam’s Centraal station will hopefully improve links between the two capitals whilst broadening the options for travellers. The new route is due to also stop in Antwerp, Rotterdam and Amsterdam-Schiphol airport, and is expected to relieve some of the three million travellers who travel between the two locations each year by plane.

In addition to this news, Eurostar also announced earlier this year that it is to launch services between London, Lyon, Avignon and Marseille in the south of France in May of next year, with tickets going on sale from December 2014. These new services could then offer no-fly options for river cruises in this area through providing an efficient and successful alternative to air travel.

Eurostar announced this latest news of an extension to Amsterdam after recording a three per cent rise in passengers in the third quarter of the year, a rise that equated to 2.8 million, suggesting that high-speed train travel, particularly between European countries, is proving increasingly popular. This service could then offer no-fly options for guests of 2016 Rhine river cruises and other such European tours, as well as benefitting business links and tourism.
