UK tourists vote for top 10 European cities

Krakow in Poland topped the list, although Prague in the Czech Republic, Budapest in Hungary and Vienna in Austria all featured in the top 10. As European cities that can be experienced during deluxe river cruises of the Danube and Czech Republic, these recommended destinations are now sure to be popular in 2015.

As voted for by the public

Locations had to be within a three-hour flight of London and were required to have been visited by the voting traveller in the past twelve months dating back from August this year. Destinations with more than 30 responses were included in the list and included 47 cities in total, with Italian cities Milan and Naples featuring at the bottom of the list.

Those voting were asked to rate the cities according to various categories such as accommodation, cultural attractions, the ease of getting around, shopping and value for money. Prague came in third place and received special mentions for its annual parade of mechanical figures at the Old Town Hall’s medieval Astronomical Clock and the statue-lined Charles Bridge over the River Vltava. The city also received five stars for being a great value location, particularly for its cheap public transport network, which is free for those over the age of 70.

Budapest also scored five for its value for money factor, helping it to place at number 7, with Vienna following closely behind in eighth position. A number of tourists voting for Vienna praised the world-class musical performances, including Viennese concerts and free filmed operas.

Other popular destinations such as Paris and Amsterdam, which can be visited by those on Emerald Waterways river cruises, also featured in the survey, but did not make the top 10.
