This was the eighth year in a row that the day had begun with the ceremony, which was later followed by the Semi-Final Allocation Draw, where it is decided which countries will compete in which half of the contest.
Those visiting Vienna on river cruises in Europe may be able to catch parts of the main Eurovision Contest, which takes place on the 19th, 21st and 23rd of May, as well as visiting the Eurovision Village which has a schedule of daily programs including live performances. There will also be guided tours relating to the Eurovision Song Contest taking place in Vienna, including one which follows the theme of music.
Just one of the many exciting events taking place in Vienna in 2015
Vienna was chosen by Lonely Planet as one of the top ten city destinations to visit in 2015, with one of the reasons being that it was the host for the 2015 Eurovision song contest. This year the contest will commemorate its 60th anniversary, and will also coincide with the 150 years of the Ringstrasse celebrations.
The contest is to be held in Vienna due to the famous win of Austrian artist and drag queen Conchita Wurst, which became headline news in 2014. Wurst is set to be the Green Room host for the evening, and will be accompanied by Mirjam Weichselbraun, Alice Tumler and Arabella Kiesbauer.
