Waltz through the heartland of Europe on the timeless passage of the Danube, slipping between the elegant capitals of Vienna and Budapest and on to the enigmatic reaches of eastern Europe. This 8-day river cruise whisks you through four diverse countries, introducing cultural highlights from traditional Hungarian folk music and dance, to the burgeoning viticulture of Croatia and the sprawling heritage of Serbia – immersing you in experiences not regularly experienced by the ordinary traveller.

Vienna is the starting point for this Danube River journey, and here you can enjoy iconic sights such as the Burgtheater, Spanish Riding School, St Stephen’s Cathedral and Hofburg Imperial Palace during an included city tour. Venturing out of Austria, you’ll reach the great Hungarian capital of Budapest, where a day of sightseeing reveals cultural treasures including Buda Castle, the Hungarian Parliament Building and the Chain Bridge. From Budapest, the Danube takes you eastward into Croatia, where you’ll sample wine in the town of Pécs before enjoying a home-hosted lunch with a local family in Osijek. Soon after, Croatia gives way to Serbia and the town of Novi Sad, where you’ll enjoy historic highlights such as Stari Grad and the Petrovaradin Fortress. The country’s capital, Belgrade, marks your final port of call, and here you can enjoy a performance of Serbian folklore with EmeraldPLUS – the perfect way to end this fascinating journey across the continent.
