ABTA updates travel advice

Mark Tanzer, ABTA Chief Executive, says, “The UK is primed to enter a new Brexit phase from 31st  January, when trade talks begin, and when it does nothing will change when it comes to travel.

“This means that valid passports can still be used, EHIC cards will still be valid and the same gates can be used at border check points. People can continue to make their travel plans with confidence that things won’t change until at least the end of 2020.

The latest advice from ABTA highlights that the UK is now on track to enter a transition period at the end of the month meaning that all travel requirements and arrangements will remain the same until at least the end of December 2020. So, as the official date the United Kingdom is due to leave the EU approaches, you can continue to book your holiday, to travel both before and after 31st January 2020, in complete confidence, safe in the knowledge that your Emerald Waterways holiday will be unaffected.

The Emerald Waterways Book with Confidence Brexit Assurance guarantees that no price increases, surcharges or supplements will affect the cost of your holiday, irrespective of any changes to the price of fuel and currency rates, if you book before 31st December 2020. You’ll enjoy the same extraordinary EmeraldVALUE our service is built on – and that’s a promise.

  • Whilst we remain in this transition period, you won’t pay a penny more for your holiday, for all bookings made before 31st December 2020, even if travel is after 31st December 2020.
  • In the unlikely event any European Union country does not allow travel for British passport holders due to Brexit, Emerald Waterways will refund the cost of the holiday.
  • Exceptional EmeraldVALUE means incredible inclusions, now and always. Providing you with a fully inclusive holiday with no need to worry about the pound vs Euro currency rate.

Emerald Brexit Assurance
Your Brexit questions answered
Brexit has raised a lot of uncertainty around European travel, and we understand that you may have questions about how it could affect your river cruise. Here, we answer common queries to help reassure you about travelling to Europe after we have left the European Union.

If my river cruise departs after the end of the transition period (31st December 2020) will I be charged extra for my holiday?

No, you won’t pay any more for your holiday. The Emerald Waterways Brexit Assurance guarantees no price increases on bookings made before 31st December 2020, regardless of when you are travelling, and we won’t add any supplements or surcharges to your total holiday cost, no matter what the financial impact of the UK leaving the EU might be.

You’re also encouraged to take advantage of seasonal offers, which you can discover more about, here.

Could Brexit affect my river cruise itinerary?

No. We create and release all our European river cruise itineraries a year in advance, and aren’t anticipating changes to any of the cruises listed on your website or in our brochures. Remember, too, that you’re covered by the Emerald Waterways River Cruise Guarantee, which covers you in the event that your holiday is disrupted by unforeseen circumstances, such as low water levels on the river.

Will the quality of my river cruise be affected by Brexit?

No. Since we first launched on Europe’s rivers in 2014, providing outstanding service to our customers has been our priority, and it’s this dedication to quality that has won us several major industry awards. Even after we have left the European Union we’ll continue working to provide the very best cruising experience in Europe – from the exceptional food and drink we serve in our restaurants, to the incredible experiences you enjoy on and off our state-of-the-art Star-Ships.

Will my flights be affected by Brexit?

We believe that Brexit won’t affect scheduled flights. The UK Government announced an agreement confirming EU airlines will be able to continue operating flight between the UK and the EU, even in the event of a no deal. However, should there be any changes after 31st December 2020, we’ll do everything we can to make sure this doesn’t disrupt your travel plans. If you’re worried about flying post-Brexit, you might consider one of our no-fly options.

Will I need a visa to enter Europe post Brexit?

Visa Information Update - Thursday 4 April 2019

The European Parliament has approved legal changes, ensuring that UK citizens will not need a visa to travel to the EU for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180 day period following Brexit, even in the event of a no-deal exit.

Mark Tanzer, Chief Executive of ABTA – The Travel Association said:

“This provides absolute certainty that UK holidaymakers and business travellers will be able to travel visa-free to Europe, deal or no deal.”

“It follows on from the confirmation a few weeks ago that flights will continue to operate, even in a no deal. This means that two of the most important concerns for UK tourists and business travellers visiting the EU have been addressed and will provide a further boost to confidence about travel to the EU after the UK has left.
